Job description

The research technician will contribute to a multidisciplinary project by performing tasks that combine in vitro laboratory experiments and bioinformatics analysis. Laboratory work will include RNA extraction and library preparation, histology, imaging, and organoid culture, while computational work will primarily focus on single-nucleus RNA sequencing. The technician will be responsible for implementing and conducting single-nucleus RNA sequencing on human brain tissue samples, analysing and interpreting the resulting transcriptomic data, and validating key findings through tissue and organoid-based approaches. In addition, the technician will provide support and training to colleagues involved in the project.

The University of Groningen and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) provide an excellent working environment for high-quality biomedical research and scientific training. This position is based in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the UMCG and is embedded within the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

We are looking for a research technician (0.7 FTE) to join the team led by Dr. Lara Barazzuol. The role is part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary project investigating the side effects of cancer treatment on the brain of paediatric cancer patients. The project focuses on mapping the brain’s response to cancer therapies, particularly radiotherapy, and provides exposure to a broad range of topics, from molecular cell biology to bioinformatics.

We are looking for an excellent, highly motivated research technician with strong laboratory skills and experience in bioinformatics.

What do we offer

This is a 25 hours per week appointment for the duration (12 months) of the project. Your salary will be € 4.041,- salary scale 7 depending on experience and number of FTE. Additionally, the UMCG offers an 8% holiday allowance, an 8.3% year-end bonus and a development budget.The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC).
